• Notes

  Both brothers (Lemuel Thomas Ormand and John Fletcher Ormand) enlisted in the Confederate Army in North Carolina.  Upon the death of their parents in 1861 the remaining children went to live with their bachelor uncle, Thomas, in Sumter County Ala.  Lemuel and John went to South Alabama after the war.  Lemuel was a member of the first class graduating from the old Southern University in Greensboro, Alabama.  He later farmed and operated a cotton gin in Sumter County.  Lemuel and his wife Martha are both buried in the Shiloh Methodist Church cemetery located in the Huntsville to Maysville road in Madison County.
