- Robert Samuel Johnson, of Sedalia, died Dec 12, 2005, at Fair View Nursing Home.
He was born Nov 21, 1921, in Ireton City, IA, the son of Donald Kenneth and Evelyn Miller Johnson. On Apr 7, 1946, in Warrensburg, MO, he was married to Sophia Anne Russell, who preceded him in death on Apr 18, 2005.
Mr Johnson grew up in Milwaukee, WI. At age thirteen he earned his pilot's license. He was a graduate of Milwaukee University High School. He lettered four years in three sports. He attended Marquette University on a football scholarship where he played for two years until the start of World War II, when he enlisted in the Army Air Corps.
Following the war he attended the University of Missouri. After he was married, he and his wife moved to Sedalia, where they owned and operated Russell Bros. Clothing Stores in Sedalia and Clinton for several years. Mr Johnson's memberships included the American Legion, Elks Lodge where he served as state president, Sedalia Rotary Club, Sedalia School Board where he served as president, the Police Board where he served as president. Mr Johnson co-founded Sedalia Little League. After he retired from Russell Bros. he worked as a real estate agent for Curry Realty. He was an avid photographer and painter. He enjoyed his grandchildren, western literature and western movies.
Surviving are a son, Russ Johnson and his wife Kathy, of Sedalia; a daughter Judy Woolery and her husband William, of Sedalia; and five grandchildren, Andrew Johnson, Sam Woolery, Megan Johnson, Dan Woolery and Will Woolery.
He was preceded in death by a son, Jeff Hagan Johnson in 1953; and two brothers, Donald and Phillip Johnson.
His body was donated to the University Of Missouri School Of Medicine."
