  "Thomas was the oldest child born to Joseph Callaway, Jr, one of nine children that came into this world in what is now known as Caroline County, Virginia. Served in French and Indian War. Moved to Lunenburg Co., VA, then was High Sheriff of Pittsylvania Co., Va, then on to Surry Co., NC then Wilkes Co. (which later became Ashe Co.). Married to May Baker, 10 children.
