Notes - "Thomas was the oldest child born to Joseph Callaway, Jr, one of nine children that came into this world in what is now known as Caroline County, Virginia. Served in French and Indian War. Moved to Lunenburg Co., VA, then was High Sheriff of Pittsylvania Co., Va, then on to Surry Co., NC then Wilkes Co. (which later became Ashe Co.). Married to May Baker, 10 children. Tradition says that Daniel Boone gave him this piece of rock when he left NC. Thomas etched "T C" on the stone himself."
