Notes - He grew up on the family farm and operated it for a few years. He attended the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas in 1896 and then operated a feed business and later a grocery. He was a captain in the Texas National Guard during World War I and then lived in Fort Worth for two years, where he managed the Exchange Restaurant. During the 1920s and early 1930s he was city marshal of Wills Point and Van Zandt County tax assessor and collector. After they lived in Gainesville and Longview for a short while, they returned to Wills Point in 1945 when he was appointed city marshal. He suffered a heart attack on the job and died at their home on Pecan Avenue later that day.
