- After an extended illness, Margaret Lacey Casteel died peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family.
Margaret was born December 27, 1927, in Palestine, Texas, to Frank and Nell Lacey. She graduated from Stephens College and from the University of Missouri, where she earned her lifetime teaching certificate with a BA in education.
Margaret moved to Greenville, S.C., with her husband, James D. Casteel, in 1960. She was an active member of Christ Episcopal Church, serving as president of the Women of the Church, and was a member of St. Monica - St. Theresa Church Chapter for many years. She gave generously of her time to numerous charitable organizations including Meals on Wheels, the American Cancer Society, and United Ministries. She was a former member of Wild Wood Garden Club and The Wednesday Book Club.
She dedicated her love and devotion to her family and friends. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, James D. Casteel of the home, her son James Frank Casteel of Columbia, S.C., two daughters, Lacey Casteel Ellis and her husband Bob of Greenville, S.C., and Sally Casteel Craven and her husband David of Winston-Salem, N.C.; six grandchildren, James Taylor and his wife Megan, Curtis Taylor and his wife Hope, Cas Craven, James Craven, Chad Ellis and Jeremy Ellis; and three great-grandchildren. She was loved by all and will be greatly missed. Margaret was preceded in death by her loving parents and her sister, Mary Frances Abernathy.
A service will be held at Christ Episcopal Church in Greenville on Tuesday, December 11, 2007, at 2 p.m. Interment to follow in Christ Churchyard. Following the interment, the family will receive friends in the McCall Parlor.
The family will be at the home of her daughter Lacey Ellis, 122 Lakecrest Drive, Monday, December 10, from 3 until 5 p.m.
