- James F. Dougherty of George West, 67, died Friday, March 17, 2006.
Visitation was held Monday, March 20, at the Galloway and Sons Chapel in George West with a rosary recited there at 6 o?clock that evening. Funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday, March 21, at 10 a.m., at St. George Catholic Church in George West with Father Stephen Dougherty and Father Joseph Olikkara officiating. Burial followed at St. Joseph Cemetery in Beeville.
Pallbearers were Richard Beall, Lupe Gonzales, Bruce Kay, L.J. ?Poochie? Lyne, Phil Lyne, Calixtro Resendez, Ron Stevenson, Bud Walker and Noe Aguilar.
Honorary pallbearers were Doyle Davis, Robert Dirks, Melvin Foster, Kenneth Gerfers, Bruce McCumber, Wesley Reagan and Morris Walker.
Mr. Dougherty was born to Francis Xavier and Leona (Harrod) Dougherty on Jan. 6, 1939, in Robstown. He was a rancher and a Catholic.
Survivors include four daughters, Becki Dougherty of Memphis, Tenn., Mary Margaret Campbell and Kries Chapa, both of George West and Traci Dougherty of Tennessee; three sons, James Francis Dougherty II of Brownsville, Todd Holland Dougherty of Edna and Christopher Scott Dougherty of George West; 18 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and one brother, Robert Dougherty of Beeville.
Mr. Dougherty was preceded in death by his parents; and one son, Franklin Cornelius ?Pancho? Dougherty.
