    • Holland Roger (Rod) Pickle, Jr was born in Palestine, Texas on August 1, 1965 and departed this world on April 10, 2019. He was the son of Roger and Barbara Pickle and was raised on the family farm in Blackfoot, Texas. God must have planned his childhood to cultivate a love of outdoors, farm-life, and “moving dirt”. He knew he needed a spirit of determination and hands that appreciated hard work. His greatest blessing was his family and he dearly loved taking care of them and creating special memories. He adored and valued time with his grandchildren, one of his favorite roles was being “BIG”. He commanded any situation with grace, integrity and wisdom. He always knew what to say, when to say it and how to create calmness and clarity in any circumstance. His handshake was firm and was honored with honesty and by his actions. He truly was larger than life.
He was the hardest of workers and never shirked from a task, his day started long before the sun came up and ended when most were already settled in bed. In his lifetime, no matter the job, he always finished it and made sure he excelled in all he did. He played as hard as he worked and delighted in dominos, fishing, dancing and most of all sitting at the blackjack table. His greatest accomplishment was the lifetime of memories and love he shared with his family and friends. Those who loved him were better for having him in their lives. You were sure to find him in a pair of red wing boots, a Richland Chambers Area Construction shirt, a little dirt and oil on his wranglers with a smile and purpose. His charm and wit were infectious and you always left his presence wiser, more loved and ready to conquer the next moment.
He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his treasured children: Brandy Sparkman-Beierle, P.J. Sparkman, and Hollie Pickle; his dear grandchildren Jayden Rampy and Addie Moore. He also enjoyed sharing his life with special friend, Patricia Lewis and her children, Caitlin and Caleb Lewis. He is also survived by a brother, Ahearn Pickle and sisters: Linda Broyles and Polly Ingram. He was also blessed with many nieces and nephews and their families.
Services for Mr. Pickle will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, April 13, 2019 at Evangelistic Temple with Paul McClendon officiating. Burial will follow at Rock Church Cemetery in Blackfoot, TX. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday, April 12, 2019 at Bailey & Foster Funeral Home. Arrangements have been entrusted to Bailey & Foster Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Rock Church Cemetery and Modoc Cemetery.
