  Rev. Richard J. Broyles is said to have obtained two degrees from Emory University, Atlanta, GA and did post-graduate work at the University of Chicago. He served as an infantry captain in WWI and was posted in France for about a year. He served numerous pastorates: Peachtree Road Church, Atlanta; First Methodist Church, Gainesville, FL; Riverside Church, Miami, FL; Hyde Park in Tampa; First Church, Lakeland, FL. He was a member of Kiwanis for seventeen years, and a member of Alpha Tau Omega, Delta Theta Phi, Sigma Upsilon, Theta Phi, and Scottish and York Rites Mason and Knights Templar.
