- Gerald O. McClung, 89, of Corsicana passed away Sunday, April 1, 2001 in Corsicana. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Edward A. Baggett officiating. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Gary Brown, Leonard Fuller, Les Leskoven, Frank Murchison, Abe Stroud and Susan Wells. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Charles Brown, John Forster, Dennis Smart and Pete Walton. Mr. McClung was born April 12, 1911 in Corsicana to Dr. and Mrs. John Edward McClung. His grandfather, Thomas Cyrus White, was the first white child born in Navarro County and Mr. McClung's great-grandfather, R.N. White, was the first county clerk of Navarro County as well as Corsicana's first postmaster. Mr. McClung attended both Baylor University and the University of Texas studying electrical engineering. On June 20, 1937 he married Elizabeth Park. In 1934, he completed his first solo flight and later became one of the civilian flight instructors at the Corsicana Air Field. Several items belonging to him are now on display at the museum at the Corsicana Municipal Airport. Following the war, he worked for the Bethlehem Steel engineering department in both Corsicana and Tulsa, Okla. Returning to Corsicana in 1951, he was involved in farming until his retirement in the early 1970s. He was an avid fisherman and loved to raise flowers and plants. He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Elizabeth Park McClung on Dec. 5, 2000; and brother, John Edmond McClung Jr. Mr. McClung is survived by a son, John E. McClung
