- Maurine Lively Pine passed peacefully Nov. 21, 2008 surrounded in love by her children, grandchildren, husband and friends. She has gone from this earth, but has truly left the most wonderful and cherished memories for which any family could ever hope. We are all so blessed to have been graced by her elegance, her caring and thoughtful ways, and her selflessness of always putting her family first. Born in Grapeland, Texas on July 9, 1921 to Willie Oscar and Maggie Holt Lively she was the 7th of 10 children. She grew up with seven sisters and two brothers in East Texas. Her mother was a homemaker and her father, a farmer. She lived a very humble childhood learning to pick cotton, to use a plow, and to be so thankful for the love and many blessings their family shared and instilled in their day to day living. She graduated from Grapeland High School in 1939 and then pursued a career in Galveston, Texas working with the McCarthy Oil and Gas Corporation. It was in Galveston in 1941 where she met her husband Ralph Dyer Pine, and they married December 23, 1942. After moving to Houston and spending 10 years together they had their first daughter Sheridan Ann. Within a four-year period they had three more girls, Melinda Maurine, Muriel Alleyne and Melissa Ruth, and continued to live and raise their children in Houston. To her girls she was affectionately known as Mama, to her grandchildren she was known as "Mimi", and to the world she was known as a beautiful, fun, and loving person. Until the very end, she looked forward to having company in her home, spending time with her children and grandchildren, and never once missed a day getting up and dressing beautifully. She loved to have her grandchildren over and they would help her make her famous "sand tarts," play cards, tell stories, and cherish their times together. Our memories of our beloved dear Mother and Mimi will never be forgotten and will become sweeter with each passing day. There will never be another quite like her. She is survived by daughter Sheridan Williams, her husband John Eddie Williams, their daughters Lauren Leigh Clark, Kristen Clark Nix, and son-in-law Lee Stover Nix, daughter Melinda Smith, and her husband Ronald Smith, and their daughters Alana Smith and April Smith, daughter Muriel Boulware and husband John Boulware, daughter Melissa Zarikian and her husband Danny Collins, and their children Andrea Zarikian and Charlie Zarikian; and special friend and caregiver, Virginia Hill. She is also survived by brother, Charles Lively; and sisters, Geneva Pickle and Margaret Teel. Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family to be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 24 in the Parlor of Geo. H. Lewis and Sons, 1010 Bering Dr. in Houston. A funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25 in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis and Sons, where Maurine's nephew, Mark Pickle, will serve as officiant. A graveside service will follow at 3 p.m. at Cedar Creek Cemetery, in Elkhart, Texas. Maurine was a devout Christian and attended the Church of Christ.
