Decatur,October 18--Our town was yesterday stirred to its profoundest depths of sympathy by the sad news that the death angel had entered the house of our beloved and honored countryman, Hon. M. A. Candler, and taken away one of the brightest jewels that clustered around his fireside. Some three months ago his oldest daughter who was just budding into lovely womanhood came home from school at Athens, Ga, to spend a short vacation. A few days after her arrival she was taken sick and since confined to her bed, until Saturday night when she passed away to enter into that joy which is unspeakable and full of glory. Her sufferings were long and excruciating, but she bore them with calmness and fortitude. Miss Laura was known for her amiability of character and generous impulses. All were attracted to her by her gentleness and love, and friends and relatives mourn her loss--a loss to them irreparable. Her funeral was preached at the Presbyterian church this evening at 3 o'clock by Rev D. Fraser. The church was crowded, and all were deeply impressed with the scene, and as the organ's solemn notes announced the commencement of the funeral services, strong men wept and sympathizing bosoms heaved. The beautiful flowers blended with sombre garniture arranged by the Sabbath school scholars about the pulpit added greatly to the sad and spectacle, and when the pastor unusually moved himself, began to speak, with bowed heads and chastened hearts, universal sympathy and sorrow reigned. After the services were closed the remains were taken to Decatur cemetery and reverently and tenderly deposited in the "narrow house of clay".
