W. E. BARTLETT DIES SUDDENLY
W. E. Bartlett died at the Halley & Love sanitarium at 12:30 Thursday afternoon, death coming in about four hours after he was stricken down at his studio Thursday morning. the news of his death soon spread over the city and brought grief to the many friends of the good man.
The physicians worked fast and faithfully and did everything possible from the time Mr. Bartlett was discovered unconscious in his studio until he breathed his last. Some symptoms of the man's suffering indicated intestinal trouble, and it was reported that an operation could be performed. But further diagnosis dispelled this idea and the physicians stated that death resulted from heart lesion.
Mr. Bartlett was one of Ballinger's best citizens. He had resided here for a number of years, being engaged in the photograph business. He was a faithful member of the Baptist church, a Christian gentleman, and was always found standing for the things he considered for the best interest of his town and community. His friends were numbered by his acquaintances. The day before he was stricken down he was among his friends on the street, and gathered with a crowd in the lobby of the postoffice while waiting for the mail, was in the best of spirits and apparently in good health.
Before coming to Ballinger several years ago Mr. Bartlett resided in Santa Anna, and relatives from Brownwood and Santa Anna arrived here on the noon train, and just as death came. He is survived by a wife and four children, three girls and a boy.
Funeral arrangements had not been announced at two o'clock Thursday afternoon.
W. E. Bartlett was found in an unconscious condition in the floor in the rear of his studio on Eighth Street early Thursday morning. Mr. Bartlett was found about thirty minutes after he left his home to come to his studio, and it is believed that he was stricken down probably ten minutes before he was found.
Mr. Bartlett suffered an attack of heart trouble more than a year ago, and was in a serious condition for some time, but apparently recovered and was thought to be in fairly good health. The first thought of those who first reached him Thursday morning was that he had again been stricken down with heart trouble, probably rupture of the intestines, and he was carried to the sanitarium and plans made for the immediate operation.8
