Cause: Killed during The Battle of the Wilderness |
- Marcellus did indeed die at the Wilderness. My great-great grandfather, William Lowndes Broyles, his brother went to Virginia to claim the body and bring it home. Marcellus and his brother, Walter are buried at the Sumach Cumberland Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Crandall, Murray Co., Georgia with their mother, Lucinda Nash Broyles. Their father, Cain Broyles, is buried at Shady Grove Baptist Church near Belton, SC. the story is told that when William Lowndes returned with the body, he was covered with lice and would not come into the house. He took his clothes off in the yard and had them boiled and he bathed in the yard before coming in the house.
