  It is my conjecture that Richard Howett and his wife, Eliza, were James H. Manning's grandparents. This is based on two pieces of documentation: 1. James and his sister were living with Richard and Eliza Howett at the time of the 1850 census, and they were old enough to be grandparents. 2. A Manning family researcher reports, "Howett was [James H. Manning's] mother's maiden name."
