Pickle of Dallas; sons and daughters-in-law, Leon Everett of Dallas, Don and Paula Everett of Dallas and Tommy and Ruth Everett of Forney; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ara and Melvin Rogers of Lubbock and Addie Mae Cummings and Herman Cummings of Nederland; brothers, Dan Everett of Plano, L.J. Bowman of Paris and Roy Everett of Hastings, Okla.; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Lemuel and his wife Martha are both buried in the Shiloh Methodist Church cemetery located in the Huntsville to Maysville road in Madison County. | 730 | Bro. Zachariah Westbrook, was born in Chester District, South Carolina, Dec 25, 1829 (sic), where he was raised. When twenty-one years of age, in 1830, he was converted and joined the M.E. Church. In 1844, he went to the M. M. Church, South, in which church he lived an exemplary life and happy Christian. In 1835 he married Miss Mary Agnew. During the same year he moved to Mississippi, settling in Monroe County. here they continued eighteen years. In 1853 he removed from Mississippi coming to Texas. He located in the northeast corner of Navarro county twenty-five years ago. Here he watched the seasons come and go from 1855 to 1878. Here, too, he witnessed the rise of the excellent community at and about Bazett (sic) postoffice. He witnessed also the prosperity of the church he loved and to build up which he so earnestly labored. He was the father of eleven children, five of whom preceded him to the other world. Three sons and three daughters, together with their aged and sorrowing mother, and many relatives and friends remain to morn their loss. Bro. Westbrook was taken sick on the 26th day of January, 1878. In the evening of the first day's he became very happy, saying that he was prepared to witness the dissolution of soul and body. For some time before his death he seemed to be in an unconscious state. On either side of his bed sat a grown son. He roused up just before he breathed his last, looking upon his sons, he exclaimed: "Get on board, boys ! get on board!" "Get on board what, father? asked one of his sons. With his almost expiring breath he cried: "Get on board the ship and let us go to the promised land." Yes ! all ye children of Uncle Zachariah, get on the ship of Zion and sail for home! Bro. Westbrook suffered seven days with pneumonia. At four o'clock on the morning of the 1st of February, "he was not, for God had taken him." Thus a veteran soldier has fallen, and we are sad; but we rejoice to know that our momentary loss is his eternal gain. I would say to Sister Westbrook to cling to the cross a few more days and the battle will be fought with you. The summons will soon come, and with you all shall be well ! | 741 | Bruce Columbus Coates,93, of Denton, died Thursday December 23, 2010 at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital of Denton. Mr. Coates was born on October 2, 1917 in Kerens, Texas to Anderson Bruce and Maggie Bell(Howell ) Coates. He was married to Clara Almeda McSween on October 31, 1941 in Burkburnett, Texas. They had been happily married for 65 years when Clara passed away on October 15, 2008. Bruce was a member of first Christian Church of Denton for 60 years. He was a member of Denton Lions Club for 60 years and served as president in 1955. He served in the United States Army Air Corps during WW II. He worked for many years in the automotive field at various dealerships including Leon McNatt and Moritz / Don Davis. Bruce is survived by his son, Robert Bruce Coates and his wife Debbie of Denton; sister Theora Baker of Arlington; a grandson, Bruce Kyle Coates and his wife Tami of Hickory Creek, Texas; four great-grandchildren, Destiny Stone,Noah Stone, Claire Coates and Cole Coates; nieces and nephew, Sharon Kinsey, Selah Hicks, Tim Baker, Chris and Brenda McSween, Roger and Liz McSween, Terry and Cami McSween, Larry and Wendy McSween Susie Creason, and Cindy Walters. | COATES, Bruce Columbus (I166)

| 749 | Burwell Edmundson, son of Wright Edmundson, was born near Huntsville on January 27, 1842, and later moved with his family near Chatfield in Navarro County. In the 1860's, the family lived between Chatfield and Porters's Bluff when Burwell enlisted in the Confederate Army and served as Cpl. of Texas Infantry, C. S. A., with Waul's Legion. In 1871, Burwell moved his family west of Rice. In 1894, Burwell and his family moved inside the city limits of Rice and resided there the remainder of his life.
