He is survived by his daughter, Martha Whelchel and husband Claude; grandsons, Claude Whelchel, III and wife Maxine, Russell Whelchel and wife Ling; great grandchildren, Kyle, Melanie, and Preston; brother, Bill Parks and wife Hope; sister, Jackie Shelley along with numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, January 7, 2009 in the Chapel of Woodlawn Funeral Home with funeral service following at 2:00 PM. Interment in Woodlawn Garden of Memories.
