- It is with deep and heavy sadness that we announce the death of James Haynes III, who passed on August 24, 2014 in Donna, Texas. James Haynes III was born on January 27, 1951 in Houston, Texas to James Haynes, Jr. and Frances Rose Danilavez Haynes (Gallagher).
James spent his formative years in Laredo, Texas where he graduated from St. Joseph Academy. He then graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1971 with a degree in Journalism. After graduation he worked at Laredo Jr. College and later as a Special Assistant to Bob Bullock (Texas State Comptroller's Office) in Austin, Texas. His remaining professional years were spent as a property manager in Weslaco. James was also a member of the Mid-Valley Lions Club of Weslaco making time to volunteer for organizations that were close to his heart and beneficial to the community.
One of his greatest joys was spending time with his three sons. He taught them how to draw, how to grill a mean steak, how to make a perfect Cioppino, how to build living room tents, how to tell a scary story around a campfire, and how to be better men.
A master storyteller, “Jimmy” as everyone knew him, was an original orator. He could tell the same story again and again and those who had gathered around him would listen and laugh as if it was the first time they heard it. His stories, voice, spirit, and way will be missed but never forgotten.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Haynes, Jr. and Francis Danilavez Gallagher, brother-in-laws, Thomas Bullock and Alejandro Zuniga.
Mr. Haynes is survived by his three children: James Haynes IV (Meghann Bridgeman), Judson Austin Haynes, and Brady Daniel Haynes; his sisters and brothers, Cynthia Denise Zuniga, Mark Steven Haynes, Robert Gerard (Apryl) Haynes, Francine Bernadette (Thomas/Bud) Pickle, Mary Louise (Juan Antonio) Gonzalez, Margaret Rose (Craig) Spiser, John Michael (Diane) Haynes, Annette Yvonne (William) Bruetsch, Monica Irene (Charles Tubb) Haynes, Richard Martin (Shannon) Haynes, Angela Christine (Oscar) Chapa; his grandchildren, Piper Viola Haynes and Adelaide Joel Haynes; and numerous nieces and nephews.
