- Mrs. Martha Helen Broyles, relict of Maj. A. R. Broyles, died at the home of her son-in-law, Mr. Frank Crayton, in this city, last Wednesday afternoon, having survived her venerable husband just two weeks. On Thursday afternoon her remains were interred in Silver Brook Cemetery, the funeral services being conducted by Rev. J. N. H. Summerel. She had been in feeble health for some time and was quite sick when her husband died. Mrs. Broyles was the daughter of the late Dr. George Brown and was born and reared near Belton, being in the 72nd year of her age. She was a woman of many noble virtues of both mind and heart, and was greatly beloved by a wide circle of friends. She was educated at the school of the Misses Bates, which was located in Pendleton before the war, and which ranked among the leading female colleges in the South. She was married to Maj. Broyles in August, 1843, and two daughters are left to cherish her memory. For thirty years she has been a devoted member of the Presbyterian Church in this city.
